Reitman Scare

BlogTO reports that the downtown Toronto block housing the new Bell Lightbox (home of the Toronto International Film Festival) has been renamed “Reitman Square.”

Who you gonna honour?

This is fitting, of course, because Canadian filmmaker Ivan Reitman directed the movie Ghost Busters, and the Bell Lightbox is built on the graves of Irish immigrants whose restless souls haunt the premises. Perhaps the hope is that invoking the name “Reitman” will be enough to scare these spooks into submission?

It’s the first step towards recognition of Canada’s greatest contribution to cinema: the sex comedy! So someday I can grab coffee at a Starbucks on the corner of Porky’s Ave and Meatballs Street.

Which desolate part of the city gets renamed to Cronenberg square?
