If you need help with Photoshop, I'd be pleased to help out - or pass along a few tips. There are soooo many options to modify your images, you have to really play with them all until you can remember which ones you like for what. You CAN keep textures while changing things like colours and contrast!

I finished SkullMonkeys, thanks entirely to the "look" and that awesome bonus level song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1qb6d_i3To
I couldn't believe how generic the gameplay was, save for the last few levels where you played in the background as opposed to the foreground. The only reason I kept playing was the claymation and humour.

Of course, there is a limit. It was called Boombots:

Doug TenNapel has recently created some fantastic comic books.
Be sure to read 2004's "Tommysaurus Rex"
It's Disney-esque, with some strange sensibilities, and a touching ending.
Kind of like "My Buddyguard"

Thanks, Seth - an excellent point. When i stare hard at the Skullmonkeys title screen, i'm struck by the amount of relief they've build into the screen. The buttons are raised. The title font pops off the background at its right edge. They're obviously trying to cast as many shadows as possible to get more mileage out of the medium ... and the fact that Skullmonkeys is their second clay game suggests they've learned a thing or two.

i'm wondering who i can approach about the photography aspect. i don't dare insult the discipline by suggesting i can pick it up in a weekend at the Learning Annex.

I think the problem is in the subject matter that you chose to do this style in and not so much your clay creation skillz. Clay lends itself better to more three dimensional elements, such as characters and set designs, as opposed to playing cards.:) Also clay is really hard to photograph well. You’ll need some good lighting, a camera with a good lens and some half decent camera skills to photograph your clay creations for multimedia use. Good luck on your next attempt!
